Study Program
The study program includes lessons in Hebrew language, grammar, current affairs, Judaism and history of the Land of Israel.
During the period of studies at the ulpan, the student is offered a number of seminars dealing with Zionism and current affairs as well as an opportunity to experience Gadna (paramilitary) training. There are also trips throughout the country and a wide range of social activities.
Work and study times are alternated, with studies three days per week and work on the kibbutz three days per week.
Housing for the ulpan
The ulpan students live in rooms for two or three people. The ulpan complex contains a club where students can meet over a warm drink, watch television, and socialize. The complex has computer/internet accessibility.
Contact with the kibbutz members
Students receive individual attention from the ulpan staff. They are also given a host family with whom they can spend time in the afternoon or evening. The family will try to make the participant feel at home. Many students keep in touch with their adoptive families many years after finishing the ulpan.
The various industries on the kibbutz
Industry: "Snacktime" –Sandwich catering, "Chezem -Avrot"- Plant for coating metal and water piping with concrete and plastic strips.
Agriculture: Dairy, poultry, field crops and citrus orchards.
Services: Electrical workshop, carpentry, garage, kitchen, dining room, children's houses.
Like the members of the kibbutz, students on the ulpan, work in all of these places.
The association with Bar Ilan University
Bar Ilan is the second largest university in the central area of the country and combines a high level of academic study with a rich, spiritual Jewish life.
The participant in the Bar Ilan Be'erot Yitchak program benefits from contact with the university and its academic preparatory course. In addition, the participant will receive assistance in registration and guidance in the selection of academic courses. The program of studies includes lectures by the university's top lecturers as well as tours of the academic facilities. The university also recognizes the ulpan as a first stage to academic studies in the university's preparatory course and regular academic studies.
Acceptance to studies at Bar Ilan is according to the regulations of the Student Authority.
Judaism and Culture
The kibbutz has an elegant synagogue, Beit Midrash, rooms for extra-curricular activities, an Olympic size swimming pool, a tennis court, well equipped sports hall all available for use by the ulpan students.
Be'erot Yitzchak enjoys the services of a rabbi who provides the community with a wide variety of classes.
Kibbutz Ulpan
Under the auspices of Bar Ilan University
The ulpan at Kibbutz Be'erot Yitzchak is operated in association with Bar Ilan University. The Be'erot Yitzchak Ulpan is the first stage of a unique program combining life in a religious kibbutz, a high level of intensive Hebrew language studies and preparation for academic studies at Bar Ilan University.
A brief background of the kibbutz
Kibbutz Be'erot Yitzchak is one of nineteen religious kibbutzim in Israel. It was founded in 1937, in the vicinity of Pardes Hanna. In 1943, the kibbutz relocated to the Negev and during the War of Independence, in 1948, while defending the vast expanses of the Negev Desert, the kibbutz was attacked by Egyptian forces and destroyed. In 1952, the kibbutz relocated to its present position, between Petach Tikva and the Ben Gurion International Airport. Be'erot Yitzchak is the religious kibbutz, closest to Tel Aviv. Be'erot Yitzchak is home to over 500 people, new immigrants and veteran Israelis.
The cost of the program is 4700 USD for the fall semester, 2008.
